SOIL
MAPPING

The Soil Mapping service transforms satellite data, field surveys and predictive models into high-resolution digital maps that highlight the actual variability of the soil. Using an advanced WebGIS platform, multi-year satellite imagery, AI and laboratory analyses are integrated to create an accurate, data-driven representation of soil characteristics.

The soil mapping process

An integrated digital soil mapping process, based on a combination of:

01

Data

Multi-year satellite data synthesised into a composite image of bare ground.

03

Analysis

Laboratory analyses carried out in accordance with official government methods.

02

Sampling

Georeferenced sampling (0–30 cm deep), carried out using tablets equipped with RTK systems offering centimetre-level accuracy.

04

Models

Machine learning predictive models for the automatic generation of thematic maps of soil parameters.

A cutting-edge solution that provides key indicators such as organic carbon content, erosion risk and a detailed, real-time analysis of the subsoil components.

Resolution

The maps are generated by combining satellite imagery, field surveys and laboratory analyses, producing high-resolution datasets with a spatial resolution of 10 or 30 metres per pixel, depending on the scale of the project.

Methodology

Each sampling point is defined using a composite methodology, ensuring that the soil data collected is representative and scientifically sound.

Detail

The samples are analysed in accordance with national reference standards, providing detailed information on pH, organic carbon and organic matter, soil texture (percentages of clay, sand and silt), nitrogen, phosphorus, potassium and other parameters.

Soil erosion and CO₂ storage

Soil erosion and organic carbon maps are essential tools for land management, for making production more efficient and for promoting sustainable practices.

Accurate quantification of the carbon stored in the soil represents a strategic advantage for countries and local businesses, strengthening their position in the emerging carbon credit market and transforming the soil into a measurable asset with economic value.
